Group of Governmental Experts on Nuclear disarmament verification


Please be advised that, in light of the current COVID-19 situation, the deadline for submitting expressions of interest of the Group of Governmental Experts on Nuclear Disarmament has been extended to 15 May 2020; the deadline for submission of views in accordance with paragraph operative 2 of General Assembly Resolution 74/50 has been extended to 31 May 2020. By operative paragraph 7 of its Resolution 74/50 (A/RES/74/50) the General Assembly of the United Nations requested the Secretary-General:

to seek the substantive views of Member States on the report of the Group of Governmental Experts on Nuclear Disarmament Verification and to report back to the General Assembly at its seventy -fifth session ;

and

to establish a group of governmental experts of up to 25 participants, chosen on the basis of equitable geographical representation and equitable representation of women and men, which will meet in Geneva for four sessions of one week each in 2021 and 2022, to further consider nuclear disarmament verification issues, including, inter alia, the concept of a Group of Scientific and Technical Experts, building on the report of the Group of Governmental Experts on Nuclear Disarmament Verification and the views of Member States referred to in paragraph 2 above.
