Overview

The first phase of the First Review Conference was held in Vienna from 25 September to 13 October 1995 at the Austria Center Vienna and the Vienna International Centre. The second phase of the First Review Conference was held from 15 to 19 January 1996 and from 22 April to 3 May 1996 at the Palais des Nations, Geneva.

Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons – Second Review Conference

Overview

The Second Review Conference of the High Contracting Parties to the Convention was held from 11 to 21 December 2001 at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. It was presided over by Ambassador Les Luck of Australia. The Second Review Conference was preceded a Preparatory Committee, which held three sessions, on 14 December 2000, from 2 to 6 April 2001 and from 24 to 28 September 2001, respectively.  In addition, at its second plenary meeting on 6 April 2001, the Preparatory Committee decided to convene informal open-ended consultations in Geneva during the week from 27 to 31 August 2001.

Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons – Third Review Conference

Overview

The Third Review Conference of the High Contracting Parties to the Convention was held from 7 to 17 November 2006, preceded by the Eighth Annual Conference of the States Parties to Amended Protocol II, at the Palais des Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). A special plenary meeting of the Conference to mark the entry into force of CCW Protocol V on Explosive Remnants of War took place on Monday,13 November 2006.

Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons – Fourth Review Conference

Overview

President, dates and venue: The Fourth Review Conference of the CCW was held under the Presidency of Ambassador Gancho Ganev of Bulgaria, from 14 to 25 November 2011.

Preparatory sessions for the Fourth Review Conference

Preparatory sessions for the Review Conference took place during the three 2011 sessions of the Group of Governmental Experts, held in Geneva on 21-25 February, 28 March - 1 April, and 22-26 August, respectively. During the preparatory meetings, Ambassador Ganev underscored that the key issues for the Review Conference would be universalization, compliance, addressing cluster munitions, and thoroughly reviewing the Convention and its Protocols.

Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons – Fifth Review Conference

Overview

The Fifth CCW Review Conference was held from 12 to 16 December 2016 in Geneva. It was presided over by Ambassador Tehmina Janjua of Pakistan.
