Overview

The General Assembly, through resolution 79/40 on the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects, decided to convene the ninth biennial meeting of States (BMS9) in 2026, to consider key challenges and opportunities relating to the implementation of the Programme of Action and the International Tracing Instrument at the national, regional and global levels. BMS9 will be held from 1-5 June 2026 in New York.

Online Submission of 2026 PoA National Reports: The online platform for submitting 2026 Programme of Action (PoA) national reports opened in February 2026.
A Note Verbale was sent to all Member States in early March outlining the process for submission and attaching guidance materials. The deadline for 2026 PoA National Reports was 15 May, however the portal will remain open for submissions. Any queries should be sent to conventionalarms-unoda@un.org

Attendance: For staff of international and regional organisations approved to attend BMS9, please email conventionalarms-unoda@un.org to register for a grounds pass. Delegates from Member States should liaise with their respective missions in New York for credentialling.
