UNIDIR and UNODA: Space Law Bootcamp and Preparatory workshop on the OEWG on PAROS in all its aspects
Overview
The international security and threat environment in outer space is rapidly changing. The outer space environment, however, is not a legal “wild west”. Instead, it is subject to a robust framework of treaties and principles that guide space activities. In advance of the third substantive session of the Open-ended Working Group on the Prevention of an Arms Race in Outer Space in all its aspects (OEWG) scheduled for July, delegates from all States are invited to participate in a two-day hybrid event designed to support their preparation. These workshops, organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), will offer Geneva and capital-based diplomats the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of general and security-specific space law, foundational concepts of outer space security, evolving threats in relation to space systems and the work of various multilateral bodies relevant to prevention of an arms race in outer space. This event is made possible due to the generous support of the European Union.
